PM's Message to the Nation: Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 notes cease to be legal tender

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Nation on Tuesday evening. Shri Modi informed that the Central Government has taken this historic stand to curb black money, corruption and counterfeit currency. Government has decided to demonetize Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes. This means that all existing currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 cease to be legal tender.

The PM said that currency notes of existing Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 can be exchanged at nearest banks from 10th November to 31st December. The amount can be deposited in bank account or post office. In one week, maximum of Rs. 20,000 can be withdrawn for personal use. Banks will provide a maximum of Rs. 10,000 per day to be withdrawn. Per day maximum of Rs. 4000 will be allowed for exchange. Per day per card maximum transaction of Rs. 2000 can be done at ATMs. However, ATMs will remain closed on 10th and 11th November. Emergency services like hospitals, medical stores, airports, railways will continue to accept existing Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes till midnight of 11th November.

Announces ex-gratia from PMNRF

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in fire mishap in Arpora, Goa. Shri Modi also wished speedy recovery for those injured in the mishap.

The Prime Minister informed that he has spoken to Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant regarding the situation. He stated that the State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected by the tragedy.

The Prime Minister posted on X;

“The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.

The Prime Minister’s Office posted on X;

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Arpora, Goa. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi”
