Subsequent Congress governments in the past hindered the North-East’s development: PM Modi in Assam
After the 1971 war, Congress had the opportunity to solve the issues internal security from Kashmir to Assam but they chose to do nothing: PM Modi
Since assuming power, we have tirelessly pursued stability, peace and security in the North-East region: Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two public meetings in Mangaldai and Silchar in the North-Eastern state of Assam today.

Taking on the Congress governments for neglecting the North-East for decades, PM Modi said, “Subsequent Congress governments in the past hindered the North-East’s development and delayed infrastructural projects which led to a stagnation of the local economies. However, we are changing this culture of policy-paralysis and are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that promising states like Assam catch up with the rest of the country and our North-East region prospers like the rest of India does.”

Questioning the Congress policy towards India’s national security on sensitive areas from Kashmir to Assam, PM Modi said, “After the 1971 war, Congress had the opportunity to solve the issues internal security from Kashmir to Assam but they did nothing about them. As we all know, since then security situation worsened to a great extent in both Kashmir and Assam until we assumed power in 2014. Since then, we have tirelessly pursued stability, peace and security in the North-East region.”

Highlighting the importance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in deciding the future of the country, Prime Minister Modi said, “These elections are not about choosing a Prime Minister or a Member of Parliament, rather they are about choosing the destiny of the nation, its future and how our young country will fulfill its growing aspirations in the coming times. These elections will decide if democracy strengthens in the country or dynasty.” In this regard, PM Modi also urged his enthusiastic supporters to turn out and exercise their franchise in huge numbers, particularly the first-time voters and asked them to vote wisely.
