PM Receives Mr. Hamid Karzai, Former President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received today Mr. Hamid Karzai, Former President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, who is currently on a visit to India.

Prime Minister once again congratulated Mr. Karzai for his leadership and sagacity in ensuring a historic and peaceful political transition and formation of a National Unity Government in Afghanistan. He also lauded President Karzai’s immense contribution to the strengthening of India-Afghanistan relations.

Mr. Karzai said that the friendship between India and Afghanistan was time-tested. India’s contribution to the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan was deeply appreciated in Afghanistan. In particular, India’s support for human resources development in Afghanistan was invaluable.

1 (1)-684 Mr. Karzai briefed Prime Minister on the developments in Afghanistan following the formation of the National Unity Government. Prime Minister said that India was committed to continue extending full support to the new Government and the people of Afghanistan in their efforts to build a strong, peaceful, inclusive, prosperous and democratic Afghanistan. PM said that he was looking forward to meeting President Ashraf Ghani in Kathmandu on the margins of the SAARC Summit.
