Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that women of Sakhimandal will be managing economic activities worth Rs.1000-cr by approaching May 1.

Today while expressing his resolve to strengthen the situation of women in the State Shri Modi said that with state government, banking and financial organizations and corporate sector joining hand under the Mission Mangalam project will bring a revolutionary change in the situation of poor and women of the state.

Chief Minister was speaking through satellite communication system at BISAG institute, to women of Sakhimandal, various bank officials and the officials involved with Mission Mangalam project, during the concluding session of a microfinance workshop.

Chief Minister said that various banks and corporate has signed about 57 MOUs during Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor’s Summit which will fetch around Rs.21,500-cr to the social sector under Mission Mangalam project.

He said that with the formation of Sakhimandal, the state government had initiated to free about 25-lakh poor rural women from the shackles of debt and now the government will cover them under Mission Mangalam project to free them from exploitation.

With Gujarat extending microfinance to the poor rural women, people will start looking at the word ‘rupee’ in a different way. A ‘rupee’ or ‘microfinance’ will not be seen as something which is given to poor as a help but as something that can change the face of society, he said. Mission Mangalam project will prove as a model for third world countries inspiring them to work for the cause of poor, he added.

Chief Minister appreciated the role of banks in Gujarat as they worked hand in hand with the state government during Garib Kalyan Melas, handing out economic benefits to the poor beneficiaries. Chief Minister also thanked banking sector for their work during the earthquake in Kutch, for they opened special accounts for the victims of earthquake.

In the beginning, rural development minister Shri Narottam Patel outlined the objectives of Mission Mangalam project, Sakhimandal and Garib Kalyan Mela.
