On the afternoon of 25th April, Shri Narendra Modi addressed rallies at Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda and Amritsar in Punjab and appealed to the people to support the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal alliance for the State’s better future and the Nation’s progress. Shri Modi spoke of local issues, from farmers’ concerns to narco-terrorism, and affirmed that under the BJP-SAD alliance the State will witness renewed growth and better living standards.

Addressing a massive rally in Amritsar Shri Narendra Modi made a strong pitch to the voters to elect the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Shri Arun Jaitley. He described Jaitley ji as a gem of a person in public life who brings intellect, honesty and a vision for development. He recalled his personal friendship with Jaitley ji and even recalled Jaitley ji's contribution to Gujarat as a Rajya Sabha MP. Shri Modi talked about promoting tourism in Amritsar and a concept of Yatri Trains that will bring devotees from all over to this holy land. Shri Daljeet Singh Kohli, brother of PM Dr. Manmohan Sing joined the BJP in Amritsar. Shri Modi said that Shri Kohli's presence will add strength to the BJP.

Shri Modi stated how India had never witnessed a government as corrupt and ineffective as the current Central government. From their miserable failure in retaliating to the killings of Indian soldiers to their dismal policies for farmers’ welfare, Shri Modi highlighted the Congress’ doings which reflected that their mantra was not of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, but rather of ‘Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan.’ He emphasized on the need to bring in technological upgradations in agriculture so as to equip the farmers for better productivity.

Speaking on how the concern of ‘narco terrorism’ and fake currency had been afflicting the people and the economy, Shri Modi called for the need to secure our borders and stop such misdoings. He also spoke of the Congress’ one-point programme which only focused on stopping Shri Modi from becoming the PM, rather than addressing issues of national importance.

Speaking further on the Central government’s unconcern for the people, Shri Modi said that this was clearly reflected in the fact that inspite of having lived in Hoshiarpur while pursuing his studies, Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh had never bothered to address local issues. He also cited how the recently released book ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ clearly put forth the autocratic hierarchy in the Prime Minister’s Office, wherein the Mother-Son duo took decisions of national importance, rather than the PM himself.

In Ludhiana, Shri Modi spoke of laying due emphasis on local industries and promoting skill development. He shared his vision of developing skill (empowerment), scale (large scale) and speed (quick speed), and thereby ensuring overall development. Shri Modi also called for the need to focus on zero-defect manufacturing, so as to give an edge to the local manufacturing and industrial spectrum. “If we have to compete with China we need to work on manufacturing and skill development & ensure cities like Ludhiana grow. I want Ludhiana to become the pride of India. We will focus on 0 Defect manufacturing so that ‘Made in India’ brand shines,” said Shri Modi, even as he affirmed of the BJP’s commitment to take the National economy on the global platform by emphasizing on inclusive growth and holistic development.

Urging the people to support the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal and make it victorious, Shri Modi spoke of the BJP’s focus on pro-people policies and cited some initiatives from the Party’s Manifesto. These included getting standardization in deciding the Minimum Support Price for farmers and introducing the ‘Pradhan Mantri Krushi Seechai Yojana’ for the linking of rivers and providing water to the farmers in every corner of the country.

He appealed to the people to vote for the BJP candidate from Gurdaspur Shri Vinod Khanna, and said, “The world knows Vinod Khanna ji as a fine actor, while the people here in Gurdaspur know him as a simple man dedicated to service. In 2001, during the Gujarat quake, Vinod ji served the people of Kutch just like a simple volunteer.”

Shri Modi recalled his early days spent in Punjab and spoke of how the experience then had made him more relatable to the local issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab CM Shri Parkash Singh Badal spoke of the ruin caused in the State due to the Congress’ inapt policies and stated how Punjab had suffered both economically and otherwise. He affirmed that the SAD-BJP alliance will bring peace, harmony and development in the State.

English translation of India's National Statement at the 21st ASEAN-India Summit delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
October 10, 2024

Your Majesty,

Excellencies,

Thank you all for your valuable insights and suggestions. We are committed to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and ASEAN. I am confident that together we will continue to strive for human welfare, regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

We will continue to take steps to enhance not only physical connectivity but also economic, digital, cultural, and spiritual ties.

Friends,

In the context of this year's ASEAN Summit theme, "Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” I would like to share a few thoughts.

Today is the tenth day of the tenth month, so I would like to share ten suggestions.

First, to promote tourism between us, we could declare 2025 as the "ASEAN-India Year of Tourism.” For this initiative, India will commit USD 5 million.

Second, to commemorate a decade of India’s Act East Policy, we could organise a variety of events between India and ASEAN countries. By connecting our artists, youth, entrepreneurs, and think tanks etc., we can include initiatives such as a Music Festival, Youth Summit, Hackathon, and Start-up Festival as part of this celebration.

Third, under the "India-ASEAN Science and Technology Fund," we could hold an annual Women Scientists’ Conclave.

Fourth, the number of Masters scholarships for students from ASEAN countries at the newly established Nalanda University will be increased twofold. Additionally, a new scholarship scheme for ASEAN students at India’s agricultural universities will also be launched starting this year.

Fifth, the review of the "ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement” should be completed by 2025. This will strengthen our economic relations and will help in creating a secure, resilient and reliable supply chain.

Sixth, for disaster resilience, USD 5 million will be allocated from the "ASEAN-India Fund." India’s National Disaster Management Authority and the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre can work together in this area.

Seventh, to ensure Health Resilience, the ASEAN-India Health Ministers Meeting can be institutionalised. Furthermore, we invite two experts from each ASEAN country to attend India’s Annual National Cancer Grid ‘Vishwam Conference.’

Eighth, for digital and cyber resilience, a cyber policy dialogue between India and ASEAN can be institutionalised.

Ninth, to promote a Green Future, I propose organising workshops on green hydrogen involving experts from India and ASEAN countries.

And tenth, for climate resilience, I urge all of you to join our campaign, " Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Plant for Mother).

I am confident that my ten ideas will gain your support. And our teams will collaborate to implement them.

Thank you very much.
