India-Italy Joint Declaration

At the invitation of Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, PM Modi paid an official visit to Italy on 19-20 May 2026. The two leaders decided to elevate India-Italy relations to the level of a Special Strategic Partnership. They reaffirmed their commitment to further expand cooperation across all sectors and continue close high-level consultations on key global and regional developments. PM Modi met Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome. The two leaders noted the upward trajectory in India-Italy strategic partnership and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation in multiple sectors. They also discussed the significance of the multimodal IMEC for ensuring maritime security, digital connectivity and energy supplies and exchanged views on the conflicts in West Asia and Europe.
