Centre insensitive towards farmers and anti-Gujarat: Shri Modi

If the Centre has any concern for farmers then it should have given permission for construction of gates at Narmada dam: Shri Modi

Kisan Yatra will cover 2000 km across Saurashtra with an objective to create awareness among farmers.

Targeting the Centre for being insensitive towards farmers, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that policies such as banning of cotton exports have adversely affected the farmers of Gujarat to a great extent. Shri Modi was speaking during the inauguration of the BJP’s Kisan Yatra, aimed at the welfare of farmers.

“With the ban (on cotton export), not only farmers of the state had to suffer heavy losses but also created a shortage of cottonseed oil that led to increase in the prices of other edible oils as well” Shri Modi said. Earlier, Shri Modi had also written a letter to the Prime Minister protesting this arbitrary ban.

Shri Modi criticized the Centre for not allowing construction of the Sardar Sarovar project and added that this was happening despite several appeals in this regard. “If the Government at the Centre has any concern for farmers then it should have given permission for construction of gates at Narmada dam,” he said.

Shri Modi stated that his Government has started giving electricity connections even in ‘dark zone’ areas in the state.

The Kisan Yatra will cover a distance of 2000 kms across the Saurashtra region and is aimed towards creating awareness among farmers about adopting scientific methods in tilling and to improve their produce.
