The state government on Tuesday awarded around 125 blood donors with the `Sherdil Gujarat` award during an event at Tagore Hall which had Chief Minister Narendra Modi and state governor Dr Kamla as guests.

Former chief justice of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh high courts, retired Justice BJ Diwan, is known as a man of rare mettle. As a centurion blood donor, the legal luminary inspired and motivated hundreds to donate blood.

"Red Cross, Gujarat chapter has completed 50 years and today it`s at the top in the country in terms of blood donation figures. It`s the philanthropic spirit of the residents of the state that has made a significant difference in the society," said Mukesh Patel, president, ACRS.
