Emphasising the importance of inclusive growth, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that governance infused with people''s participation is the key to overall progress.

Speaking at the ''9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas'' here, Shri Modi gave a slew of examples where his government had partnered with the people in sectors like industry, environment, rural development and agriculture, to ensure inclusive growth.

"The industry in Gujarat has grown at 13 per cent. The bigger success is that Gujarat has an amazing mix of big, small, fast growing and sustainable industries. Gujarat contributes to 22 per cent of exports and 30 per cent of stock market capitalisation of the country," Shri Modi said.

Underscoring the relevance of environment protection in an age of rapid industrialisation, he said his government has set up a department for climate change issues.

"We have laid the foundation of a 500 MW solar park which is being developed on a 1000 acre wasteland in North Gujarat.

The project will check emission of 80 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide and save nine lakh tonnes of non-renewable fuel like coal each year," the Gujarat Chief Minister said.

In the area of rural development, Shri Modi said the government has completed a huge round of ''garib kalyan'' melas and distributed schematic benefits worth more than Rs 4,000 crores to the needy.

"With people''s participation, we have constructed lakhs of check-dams for rain water harvesting, worked towards girl child education, empowering farmers among many other schemes," he said.

Inviting investors to Gujarat for the upcoming ''Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit'', he said the biennial event managed to draw investments to the tune of 240 billion USD, even during global recession.

"This time we have invited other Indian states as well as countries to use this platform to be part of our story of inclusive growth," Shri Modi said.

He said the government would build the ''Mahatma mandir'' in the state capital Gandhinagar and appealed to non-resident Gujaratis to bring soil and water from all corners of the world to be put into the foundation of the building.
