Gujarat Governor Dr.Shrimati Kamala and Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi felicitated families of martyrs of war, gallantry award winners and battle disabled soldiers in a program organized at Ahmedabad today to honor ex-servicemen. They also felicitated families of solders of World War II.
Financial assistance was given to beneficiaries of various schemes on the occasion.
Governor described the services rendered by the defence personnel as patriotism of an excellent nature. She said that military personnel are showing an unparalleled bravery and commitment in safeguarding our large country and that the entire nation is feeling proud of them.
It is commendable that Rajya Sainik Board has built Gaurav Senani Bhavan in Ahmedabad in golden jubilee year of Gujarat where various services are being provided to retired and serving soldiers, she said.
Chief Minister, with a view to encourage youths of Gujarat to join military, announced insurance cover scheme for the youths who get selected in military services. Gujarat government is taking help of ex-servicemen to train state’s youth for military services. Selection ratio of Gujarat’s youth in military services has increased to 38% from seven percent in the past, he said.
Chief Minister gave outline of the state government’s planning of starting Naval NCC unit for giving training to seafarers to recruit them in Navy.
State government has set up Raksha Shakti University with an aim to train youths to render services on senior posts in military and this university will prove helpful not only to youths of Gujarat but of entire country, he said.
He hailed the sacrifices of the soldiers who fought for the nation and said that one of the over-bridges in Ahmedabad is named in the memory of field marshal manekshaw. He said that Gujarat is the only state in the country which honored its martyrs by naming their schools or birthplace after them.
Minister of State for Home Shri Praful Patel, Chief Secretary Shri A.K.Joti, Chief Additional Secretary for Home Shri Balwantsinh, high officials of military services and invitees were present on the occasion.
