Amid a religious atmosphere, Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi flagged off the 134th Rath Yatra today morning from the Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad.

This was for the tenth consecutive year that Mr. Modi performed the Pahind ceremony and worshiped the Lord Jagannath with golden chamar(brush) in the main chariot of the Lord Jagganath.

Chief Minister described the Lord Jagannath as a lord of poor and deprived people. He wished that the Lord will shower his blessing in the form of rain and the festival will bring prosperity to the people.

He said the festival of Rath Yatra is being celebrated in about 110 places in Gujarat and is a unique religious tradition in which the Lord himself symbolically moves out in the city to meet his devotees.

Yesterday on the eve of 134th Rathyatra Shri Narendra Modi participated in the evening prayers here and prayed for rains in Gujarat. "Spirituality is the identity of India and is manifested through the medium of festivals in the nation. Rathyatra, which is being taken out in Jagannath Puri and Ahmedabad for more than a century, is a perfect example of it," Modi said.
