In the recently presented Gujarat Budget 2013-2014, a revolutionary step was announced by the Gujarat Government for the training of Safai Kamdars in Karma-Kand (rituals) at reputed institutions. A Budget of Rs. 1838 crore has been allotted for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste and developing castes. This includes provisions for Samras Hostels, monetary scholarships for students of the Scheduled Castes, providing bicycles, uniforms among other things.
In the last decade, the Gujarat Government has taken several such progressive steps to put an end to any kind of inequality on caste or creed.
