New Delhi: A delegation of Latin American & Caribbean Countries (LAC) today called on Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi here in Gujarat Bhawan to boost bilateral ties between the two regions. The Ambassadors and High Commissioners of 20 LAC countries met Shri Modi and discussed latest regional and international developments as well as ways to boost bilateral trade relations.

Mr. Jaime Nualart, the Ambassador of Mexico in his capacity as Chair of the Group of LAC led the delegation. Addressing the delegation, Gujarat Chief Minister said that Latin America has always been a valued trade partner of India and a prominent investment region for Indian investors. Talking about Gujarat, we have a number of common interests like Hydro Carbon resources of your regions, agriculture, food processing as well as dairy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, auto parts, diamonds, textiles and garments. Infrastructure sector and tourism promotion are other areas where Gujarat can offer a lot to LAC countries, he noted.

Gujarat has recently acquired huge strength in iron and steel industries whereas plastics have been its traditional industry, Shri Modi said adding that tobacco is another area of Gujarat where we can add value and increase business. The Gujarat Chief Minister recalled the social patterns that both regions share with Latin America participating in last two Vibrant Gujarat summits and Navratri celebrtaions. We have been sending our delegations to invite the companies in LAC region to the mega-business event and to explore business opportunities. Many Gujarat-based companies are already doing good trade with LAC region, few of them also having physical presence in some of the countries, Shri Modi informed the gathering.

The diplomats, in turn, congratulated Shri Modi for making Gujarat the growth engine of India and shown keen interest to strengthen the trade and business relations between State of Gujarat and LAC region. They were impressed with all round development of Gujarat under leadership of Shri Narendra Modi.

Addressing the meeting which lasted for over two hours, Shri Modi said that like India, all Latin American countries are working to enable our respective people to enjoy quality life. There is tremendous scope to learn from each other especially in delivering various services with use of technology and people’s empowerment. In this field, we are natural partners, he added.

Narrating the achievements of Gujarat in different sectors like healthcare, education, drinking water, sanitation, skill development, agriculture, agro-processing, water management, etc., where Gujarat has done truly remarkable work and people have benefitted tremendously, the Gujarat Chief Minister informed the diplomats that we would like to share these ideas, innovations, technology, processes, etc. for mutual benefit of both the regions.

In Gujarat, we have four agricultural universities and world famous dairy industry. Gujarat is the only state in the world having a forensic science university. Shri Modi pointed out that Gujarat has a 200 sq km area where protein-rich wheat is cultivated. He further stated that such innovations can be tapped by Latin American Countries through collaboration in agriculture, dairy, horticulture, etc. Gujarat is known for using Information Technology in governance and service delivery, grievance redressal, etc. We would be too happy to share these innovations with you, he told the delegates. In Gujarat, we have State sector companies in fertilizer, petroleum, natural gas, etc. We would like to enter into partnership with LAC for the mutual benefit. Shri Modi also informed that Gujarat has an extensive skill development programme-engaging and harnessing its youth.

Exploring the issue of tourism opportunities between Gujarat and LAC countries, he said that there is huge scope for Latin American investment in beach tourism and cruise tourism in Gujarat with its 1600 km coastline offering tremendous business opportunities.

Besides Mr. Jaime Nualart, Ambassador of Mexico, Ambassadors who attended meeting include Mr. Julio De La Guardia (Panama), Mr. Javier Paulinich (Republic of Peru), Ms. Aashna Kanhai (Republic of Suriname), Mr. Carlos Duarte (Brazil), Mr. Cristian Barros (Republic of Chile), Mr. Juan Alfredo Pinto Saavedra (Colombia), Mr. Cesar Ferrer (Uruguay), Ms. Milena Santana Ramirez (Venezuela), Mr. Genaro V. Pappalardo (Paraguay), Mr. Frank Hans Dannerberg Castellanos (Dominican Republic), Mr. Jorge Cardenas (Bolivia) and Mr. Juan F. Cordero (Costa Rica) The diplomats from the country of Argentina, Republic of Ecuador, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, El Salvador and Guatemala also participated in the meeting.

Shri G.C. Murmu, Principal Secretary to CM and Shri Bharat Lal, Resident Commissioner participated in the meeting.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with NCC Cadets, NSS Volunteers, Tribal guests and Tableaux Artists who would be a part of the upcoming Republic Day parade at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg earlier today. The interaction was followed by vibrant cultural performances showcasing the rich culture and diversity of India.

In a departure from the past, Prime Minister interacted with the participants in an innovative manner. He engaged in an informal, freewheeling one-on-one interaction with the participants.

Prime Minister emphasized the importance of national unity and diversity, urging all participants to interact with people from different states to strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. He highlighted how such interactions foster understanding and unity, which are vital for the nation’s progress.

Prime Minister emphasised that fulfilling duties as responsible citizens is the key to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. He urged everyone to remain united and committed to strengthening the nation through collective efforts. He encouraged youth to register on the My Bharat Portal and actively engage in activities that contribute to nation-building. He also spoke about the significance of adopting good habits such as discipline, punctuality, and waking up early and encouraged diary writing.

During the conversation, Prime Minister discussed some key initiatives of the government which are helping make the life of people better. He highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering women through initiatives aimed at creating 3 crore “Lakhpati Didis.” A participant shared the story of his mother who benefited from the scheme, enabling her products to be exported. Prime Minister also spoke about how India’s affordable data rates have transformed connectivity and powered Digital India, helping people stay connected and enhancing opportunities.

Discussing the importance of cleanliness, Prime Minister said that if 140 crore Indians resolve to maintain cleanliness, India will always remain Swachh. He also spoke about the significance of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, urging everyone to plant trees dedicating them to their mothers. He discussed the Fit India Movement, and asked everyone to take out time to do Yoga and focus on fitness and well-being, which is essential for a stronger and healthier nation.

Prime Minister also interacted with foreign participants. These participants expressed joy in attending the programme, praised India’s hospitality and shared positive experiences of their visits.
