PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with the PM of Japan, Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The leaders underscored their commitment to deepening the India-Japan partnership for regional and global peace, prosperity and stability. PM Takaichi expressed strong support for the AI Summit to be hosted by India in February 2026.

PM Modi will visit Japan from 29–30 August 2025 and China from 31 August–1 September 2025, at the invitation of Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba and Chinese President Xi Jinping, respectively. In Japan, the PM will participate in the 15th India–Japan Annual Summit and hold discussions with Japanese PM Ishiba. In China, the PM will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

At the invitation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Mr. Kishida Fumio will be undertaking an official visit to New Delhi from 19-20 March 2022 for the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. The Summit would be the first meeting of the two leaders. The previous India-Japan Annual Summit took place in Tokyo in October 2018.
