At the invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, PM Modi undertook a two-day State Visit to Bhutan from 11–12 November 2025. During the visit, the PM joined the 70th Birth Anniversary celebrations of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, participated in the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival, inaugurated the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project and witnessed the signing of several agreements and MoUs between India and Bhutan.

The PM extended his best wishes on the occasion of His Majesty’s 70th birth anniversary and lauded him for his leadership in further strengthening India-Bhutan friendship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, Bhutan’s highest civilian decoration, by His Majesty the King of Bhutan in a public ceremony at the Tendrelthang, Thimphu. Prime Minister Modi is the first foreign leader to be given this prestigious award. His Majesty the King of Bhutan had announced the conferment of the award during Bhutan’s 114th National Day celebrations held at the Tashichhodzong, Thimphu in December 2021.
