Drinking Water Supply Scheme for 508 villages: Project Cost Rs.303/Crores

Palanpur: Thursday: Addressing the mammoth farmer's rally at Dantivada Agriculture University today, Chief Minister Narendrabhai Modi vowed to convert the dry and barren land in to the lush green land through appropriate water management initiatives. He stressed the need to motivate the farmer towards modern technologies, which will give significant impetus to the agriculture income. Chief Minister said, The Sujalam Sufalam Scheme, Narmada Canal and Dantivada reservoir would provide irrigation facilities in 1.67 thousand hectares of land. The seven branch-canals of Narmada are also to be completed by the year 2010. The Narmada water based Drinking Water Supply Scheme for the 508 water scarce villages, is to be undertaken at the project cost of Rs.303/ Crores.

As a part of the 62nd Independence Festival celebrations, on the eve before the Independence Day, Chief Minister laid foundation stone of Dairy Science and Food Technology College and Pulse Research Center- Project cost Rs.23/ Crores. He also performed Bhoomi-Pujan of the Farmer's Hostel which is to be built at the cost of Rs.149/ Lakhs. Agriculture University's new ventures are bound reap economic rewards for the farmers. He inaugurated the Local Area Network of the University, distributed Banas-Seeds to the beneficiaries, he also felicitated the progressive farmers. The Four Agriculture Universities have evolved an excellent system to address the needs of the sector by recognizing the need to offer innovative and specific inputs about the climate, soil, farm products and the requirement of the farmers of that particular zone.

Chief Minister said that the farmers need water, not the electricity. The availability of Narmada water and adoption of drip irrigation culminates in to wealth generation. He claimed that the Gujarat is at the forefront in the caster seed production; days are not far that Gujarat would dominate pulse production also. Soil Health card is proved to be a blessing for the farmers. With the aim to capture world markets, focus is on Dairy development, Animal hostels, Kamdhenu University are the right steps to realize our dreams. He appealed to the people of Banaskantha to play a leading role in establishing animal hostels at village level. Chief Minister inspired the farmers to cultivate Jetropha and other seeds that produce Bio-Fuels. He asked the farmers to take maximum advantage of the Energy Efficient Water Pump Schemes. He made an appeal to adopt Drip-Irrigation so that not an inch of the soil should be left out without Drip- irrigation.

Chief Minister inaugurated Farmer's Hostels Blocks, Drip Irrigation Methods, Vegetable Processing Plant, Local Area Network and Video Conferencing facilities at Sardar Krushinagar Dantivada- Agriculture University. Delivering the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Shri R.C.Maheshwari claimed that Gujarat has emerged as a front runner State in the Agriculture production. He also highlighted the outstanding services and valuable contributions of the Agriculture University. Ministers Shri Narottambhai Patel, Shri Parbatbhai Patel, MLAs Shri Liladhar Vaghela, Mafatbhai Purohit, Govindbhai Prajapati, Anilbhai Mali, Babubhai Desai, Chairman Banas dairy Shri Parthibhai Bhatol, Eminent leaders Shri Lekhraj Bachani, Harjivanbhai Patel, Top Officials from North Gujarat, farmers and women in large numbers were among the others who attended the function.
