30 youth of Gujarat origin from Angola met Chief Minister Narendra Modi to thank him

Shri Modi has always raised the issue of well being of Indians in foreign soil

Gandhinagar, Tuesday: About 30 youth of Gujarat origin from Angola paid a courtesy call on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi here today and thanked him profusely to ensure their safe passage from Africa to India.

It was because of timely and effective intervention by Mr. Modi that a large number of Indians, including Gujaratis, could return to India following industrial violence in Angola.

The youth came to Gandhinagar under the leadership of former minister Shri Karsanbhai Patel to meet the Chief Minister.

This is not the first time Shri Modi has been at the forefront of standing up for the interests of Gujarat and the nation vis-a-vis foreign nations. Recently During his trip to China in November 2011, the Chief Minister had raised the issue of speeding up the judicial process of diamond traders, many Gujarati who were in Chinese prisons. This request worked as 13 Indians were eventually freed by the Chinese courts. People in India hailed the judgment and particularly the role of Shri Narendra Modi in raising this concern for Indians overseas. Even families of those released thanked Shri Modi for his efforts.

In 2008 when internal unrest was rife in Kenya, Shri Modi wrote letters to the Prime Minister seeking safety of the Gujarati population there. Even during the wave of violence against Indian students in Australia in 2009, Shri Modi had raised the issue with the PM as well as the Australian High Commissioner.

Thus, when it comes to raising a voice for the safety and well being of Indians on foreign soil, Chief Minister Shri Modi has always taken the lead in doing so.
