Soon, Gujarat’s NREGA workers will get their wages faster

- An Electronic Fund Monitoring System (EFMS) will soon be set up across the state to speed up payment of wages to workers employed on schemes under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).
- Sources in the rural development department said that at the initiative of the Union ministry of rural development, the state department had undertaken the pilot project for speedy transfer of wages to the bank accounts of workers.
- Talking about the EFMS, the official said that as of now all wages to MNREGA workers are paid through bank accounts or post office accounts.
- There are more than 40.82 lakh NREGA workers in the state, out of which more than 38.33 lakh have bank accounts. EFMS can be implemented in their case.
