Amitabh Bachchan, on a weeklong promotional shoot for Gujarat Tourism, says he is ready to devote over 100 hours of his time for the campaign if it is termed "social service".

Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been appealing to people from the state, to devote 100 hours of their time towards social service in view of Gujarat's 50th year of formation.

"Mr Modi has appealed to all, during the golden jubilee of Gujarat, to individually devote 100 hours of their time towards social service for Swarnim Gujarat.

"If what I am doing in the promotion of tourism in the state can be termed as social service, I am happy that I shall be devoting more than a 100 hours towards this cause," Bachchan, who has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Gujarat, wrote on his blog.

The 67-year-old actor, who began shooting from May was all praise for the beautiful locations in Gujarat.

"The region, the people, the place, the visuals...the air...grows within you. The air of Gujarat. With each breath the colours and the vibrancy fill you up with an energy that I have not experienced in the recent past. And I have barely scratched the surface yet," he wrote on his blog.

Clearly smitten by the Kutch, Bachchan ensured he didn't wake up late for the shoot on Sunday.

"I decided to try a more natural device to wake me up, a device I had read or perhaps picked up from either my father or through practice on my own. Before hitting the bed you tell your brain in a somewhat authoritative tone — tomorrow morning I need to get up at 7 am! . And wonder of wonders, the brain wakes you up at 6:45 !"

Already on job in full swing, he recommends the clock tower at Prag Mahal in Bhuj. He was disheartened by the fact that the grandeur, elegance and sheer magnitude of the royals was now "just a shadow of the glorious past".

On his blog, Big B offers an insight into Datta Treya temple on Kala Dungar. He also posted pictures of the spot where prasad is offered to the jackals.

"I looked through powerful binoculars across the vast area of emptiness. Nothing in sight except a white desert, soft salt laden and spongy. The border security force informed me that the soil was their natural barrier. No vehicle or personnel could walk across into it for fear of getting sucked in to the earth due to its porous nature. The width of this Rann is about 100 kms and for those that dared to cross over, illegally it must be an exercise in extreme physical endurance."

Bachchan urges people to "be the change you want to see in others".

Bachchan seems to be in awe of the colourful pathanies and salwar kameez combination worn by men that he wears "most of the time". He has taken time out to post a couple of pictures of those colourful attires on the blog, a very elaborate one.

He urges all to "admire and respect what providence, nature and our ancestors left behind for us" and "fill ourselves with pride in our possessions, the possessions of this most beautiful land in the universe".
