Modi's fans gift him helpline on birthday DNA, Friday, September 18, 2009 8:49 IST Vadodara: Denizens of Vadodara on Thursday came up with a unique gift to the chief minister, Narendra Modi, on his 59th birthday by launching a helpline to assist senior citizens of the city who live alone. The helpline will assist them in their daily works. Named Setu Helpline, it is a brainchild of the Narendra Modi Fan Club and the Samanvay Foundation. The youth members of the helpline will help senior citizens in works like making payment of their telephone and electricity bills, booking gas refills, going to hospital for medical check-up etc. The youths will also pass their leisure time with them. Talking to DNA, the co-ordinator of Samanvay Foundation, Jigar Inamdar, said, "Our main aim in starting the helpline is to assist lonely senior citizens in their day- to-day work. I have personally observed that there are many elderly couples in the city who live alone, due to which they face difficulties in their daily life. These senior citizens will now be able to dial a number and the in-charge volunteer of the area will reach their residence, and assist them in their routine works. The helpline's phone number is 9377001001, which will work 24x7." Currently, 21 volunteers are registered with the helpline. Every youth has been assigneda ward and he will take charge of the senior citizens who call them for help. Not only that, the youths will also go to their houses in their leisure time and spend some time with them, so that the senior citizens' loneliness could be reduced.
