Rakshashakti Varsity to train youth for internal security: Hon'ble CM
 

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Rakshashakti University at a function in Ahmedabad, projected to be a world-class institution to train youth for internal security and to counter high-tech crimes.

Speaking on the occasion, he said a large number of youth are willing to serve the nation, but they need to be trained in the most advanced technology and scientific gadgets to detect and check latest crimes. There are international forces working behind Terrorism, Maoism and Naxalism. The traditional skills and tools would not do in the changing crime world.

At present, the varsity has started first-of-its-kind Diploma in Police Science in the New Mental Area in Ahmedabad for which 800 applications were received for 160 seats and all of them have been filled up. The Gujarat Government has allocated 192-acre plot near Gandhinagar for the new campus, as it would also start undergraduate and postgraduate degree, in-service courses and research facilities soon.

The Chief Minister said the relevant Rakshashakti University Bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly in July-2009. Earlier, he said, the government had started Forensic Science University and Gujarat National Law University to train youth in crime investigation, detection and punishment procedures.

Mr. Modi exuded confidence the fresh initiative undertaken by the state government in develop human resource for the internal security in the country to take up new challenges.

Rakshashakti University Director-General O.P. Mathur, in his welcome address, said the nation's present security is in a very precarious stage and there is an urgent need to raise equally effective internal security forces.

Prominent among those present at the function included Chief Secretary A.K. Joti and Director-General of Police S.S. Khandwawala, senior officers of security forces and University's Deputy Director-General Vikas Sahay.
